How To Troubleshoot Cisco VPN Client on Mac
// January 8th, 2009 // How To
Are you a Mac lover, who is frustrated by using Cisco VPN Client on Mac or on Parallels? Do you get disconnected every 5 seconds?
I have found a lot of people asking me the same question over the past couple of months, and I found myself giving them the same reply over and over again. It struck me today that, why not I post it some where so that they could search it over the net instead of pinging me. And even if they did, I could refer them to my site.
I have also provided the link to the original blog where I knew it when I started using a Mac.
Here is all that you need to do:
Disable your Parallels’ networking.
-Apple -> System Preference -> Network.
-Double click on “Parallels NAT”.
-Change the configuration setting “Configure IPv4: Using DHCP” to OFF.
-Click the “Show:” pulldown to find “Paralells Host-Guest”.
-Change the configuration setting “Configure IPv4: Using DHCP” to OFF.
At the first sight this might seem pretty crazy. Trust me, this works! Well, obviously I created a new “Location” with these settings.
All thanks to Rob Misek who took his time in documenting these stuff in his site.

First of all, thank you so so very much for posting this. It didn’t work for me, but I’ve had tons of problems with this software over the last couple of years, and I had never come across this suggestion before, so I’m glad it’s out there now.
Anyhow, I am still having problems, and was wondering if you might be able to offer any more suggestions.
I tried the above suggestions, as well as running
# /System/Library/StartupItems/CiscoVPN/CiscoVPN restart
in Terminal, both to no avail. I reinstalled Cisco VPN Client, and it still didn’t work. I tried the first steps mentioned above again, still didn’t work. I reinstalled OS X (archive and install), and it still doesn’t work. I still keep getting this stupid Error 51 every time. Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help!
